Dynamic IP Resolution

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

For the Sitrad Remote to access the Sitrad Local remotely you need to know the IP address of the machine where the Sitrad Local is installed. No problems so far, since the server IP where the Sitrad Local is installed can be checked by opening the server Internet browser to access any page that shows the IP, such as www.ip-adress.com.

The problem appears when the Internet service uses a dynamic IP. In this case, the computer IP address is changed at times preventing the Sitrad Remote to use the old IP to access it.

One way to solve this problem is to hire the fixed IP service, which is paid. However, a less expensive way is to use a Dynamic DNS program to solve the problem.

A Dynamic DNS program allows you to use a DNS (Domain Name System) address such as myserver.dns.com instead of using the IP address. This is made possible by installing in the Sitrad Local machine a program that updates the current computer IP address in an Internet server. In the previous example, when the Sitrad Remote tries to access the “myserver” server, the site “dns.com” will return the current IP address of the machine to the Sitrad, allowing for a proper connection between both software applications.

Suggestion for three DNS programs:

DynDNS

Language: English

Download: dyn.com/dns/dyndns-pro-free-trial

Notes: You need to fill in the registration at the site and install an updater program.

No-IP

Language: English

Download: www.no-ip.com

Notes: You need to fill in a registration at the site and then install an updater program.

DDNS

Language: Portuguese

Download: www.ddns.com.br

Notes: You do not need to fill in a registration at the site. Just install the updater program and fill in the registration through the program itself. The program has a low annual cost.
